Een Kerk, Een Vrouw, Een Kroeg (2024)
This journey along the Dutch coastline is a personal search for trust in oneanother & depicting a more honest & contemporary representation of the Dutch identity.
With a bike bag full of dreams I set out to create a humanistic portrait of country, questioning the political nostalgic nationalism from the far right who have been sketching a romantic image of our past that never really excisted.
The coastline is a democratic playground full of recognisable landscapes that evoce memories but can find itself in the realm of surrealism. Along the way I meet people in churches & bars and at times stayed over for the night in their homes. These interactions are about listening and observing to understand how we as a country shape our identity.
The project has been exhibited as a part of the 2024-edition of the St. Joost Academy ’Now Show’ and is a self-published photo book in an edition of 50. Last copies are still available.
